Ideas For Your Winter Wedding
Many couples shy away from a "winter
wedding" but think twice about the benefits of blustery
nuptials. Winter is the season of celebrations: the solstice,
sacred holidays, New Years and even Valentines.
Why not choose it to christen your
new life together? |
THE KEY TO
PLANNING YOUR "WINTER WEDDING".
The key to pulling off a coordinated
event: Evoke your theme throughout the affair. Whether
that theme is as general as a season or a feeling, or as
specific as a special flower, it should be the subtle
thread that ties everything together. Your location,
invitations, flowers, menu, cake, and favors should all
cleverly reflect one common concept. Then, get as
creative as you can!
THE LOCATION
Since this is a
Winter Wonderland Wedding, make your venue a
"snow-filled" haven.
The two
essential ingredients when selecting a location for your
magical winter wedding is that the location is warm
on the inside but scenic in the snow. Think,
Ski lodges, clapboard bed-and-breakfast, chalets,
castles, ballrooms with grand fireplaces. If your
wedding will be in a location that does not have snow,
hire an ice company to blow snow at the entrance to your
venue.
THE COLOR
SCHEME
When it
comes to designing your reception, the color scheme is a
crucial factor. Sometimes the winter season may merit
the use of many shades, but winter should be about the
simple impact of a few choice hues. The first on the
list is White. From the bridal gown to the glittering
engagement ring it needs no explanation. Think true
white, off white, ivory, glittering diamonds and
crystals. Besides being
traditional, white is also an incredibly contemporary
color. Blur the line between outdoors & indoors by
continuing the white palette indoors. Let white
reign supreme. Add touches of ice blue, lilac,
and silver.
THE DECORATING
If your
wedding & reception will be in the evening, remember
that dusk comes early, so schedule your wedding &
reception so that guests can enjoy the location in
twilight.
Start by
lining driveways, walkways, banisters, porch railings &
etc with hundreds of Snowflake Luminaries or punched tin
lanterns (with a snowflake pattern).
Light candles about 1/2 hour before guests are to
arrive. If you have a large number of candles to light
use a six-inch butane torch, handy tool, saves lots of
time.
Place white
twinkle lights in the yard, in trees and on porch
railings and in other strategic locations.
Fill large
silver urns or ice buckets with snow and arrange glossy
greenery so that it is spilling out of the container.
Flank the front porch or entryway with these
arrangements.
Don't forget
the ice sculptures, use them outside or inside or both.
Illuminate them with a spotlights.
Designate a
separate space for a coatroom, where guests can store
there coats, bags & boots. Use urns to hold umbrellas
and old worn vintage oriental runners to set boots on.
If the room has a fireplace that would be perfect!
Use
monochromatic (white, off white, & ivory) flowers and
arrange in crystal vases and bowls, silver mint julep
cups or silver chalices.
Keep
lighting to a minimum and use hundreds of crystal
or glass candle holders and votive holders to illuminate
the room. Place ice
blue or lilac votives & tapers in candle holders.

Snowflake Candle Holders

blue tea light holders for your winter wedding
theme.*Note: Candles not included." |

|
To create an
illuminating centerpiece, place a glass vase
inside another that is slightly larger (secure them with
the wax adhesive (tacky wax). Take a piece of one wax
adhesive circle, "work" it a little with your fingers
and place it under the inner glass vase, waterproof and
invisible. Fill between the glass vases with water
tinted with blue food coloring (another color could be
used). Place a Pillar candle in the interior vase. Make
a series of these centerpieces in different shades of
the same hue (a few extra drops of food coloring will
yield the desired contrast).
Place
displays of iced branches everywhere. You can
create incredible iced branches with tree branches,
tacky glue, and diamond vase filler. Place a sheet of
newspaper down for a work area. Pour a pile of Diamonds
in the center. Place tacky glue on the branches and roll
in the Diamonds. Let set 1 hour and you have ice covered
branches. Easy as that!
Remember
that your table tops offer a very large surface area.
Covering then with beautiful specialty linens, is one of
the most economical ways to change the look and feel of
your room. Cover winter tables in rich fabrics like:
velvet, taffetas, or metallic organza.
Accent your
table with white, silver, and all that shimmers! Set
your table in winter white with dazzling silver accents.
Ice blue or lilac candles, silver placemats and napkins add drama to even
the plainest white plates and serving bowls. A vase of
white flowers and a delicate sprinkling of fake snow
down the center of the table add the finishing touches.
A
magnificent table can be fashioned with one (or several)
of the simplest items: a cake pedestal. The pretty
pedestals raise decorations and sweets high, elevating
offerings in every sense. Use to elevate food on a
buffet table, flowers for a centerpieces or to show off
votive holders or stacks of cookies whose ribbons repeat
the colors of the flowers.
Use silver
pine cones for place card holders.
