Magnificent Beauty
One of the easiest ways to
customize your Wedding is to choose a certain flower that you love,
like the Calla, then carry that idea all the way through your event.
The key to pulling off a coordinated wedding reception: Evoke your
theme throughout the affair. Whether that theme is as general as a
season or a feeling, or as specific as this special flower, it
should be the subtle thread that ties everything together. Your
reception location, invitations, flowers, menu, cake, and favors
should all cleverly reflect one common concept. Then, get as
creative as you can!
Callas are well known as a romantic
flower. If you love Callas, then go far beyond using Callas in your
bouquets. Send Calla design save-the-date cards, followed with Calla
design invitations. Place Calla seals on your envelopes. Use satin linens on your
tables with a tall clear glass vase of 3 - 5 Callas and lily
grass. Have your florist tuck a mini Calla inside each napkin band and give favor boxes
imprinted with a Calla design. Finally, put a
vase of Callas in the ladies' room.

Colors: Calla are available in
a variety of colors like: white/cream,
cream, yellow, peach, purple, orange (mango), pink, purple, burgundy, mauve and green.
| Flowers:
Although Calla Lilies are available year-round, winter
to late spring is the peak season. Callas are available
in white/cream, green, yellow, peach, purple, orange
(mango), pink, purple, burgundy, mauve and white crystal
blush (a lavender/purple blush). Calla Lilies are
expensive, so if you plan to use Calla Lilies throughout
your wedding expect to pay more for your flowers.
If you are on a tight budget, ask your
florist
to work in a few Callas with other less expensive
flowers or use only 3-5 Callas per arrangement. |

Calla
Lilies Invitations:
Your Wedding begins with
the perfect Invitation. As romantic as a garden, love will show when guests receive
your beautiful Calla lilies invitations. Highlight your wedding colors by using a matching ink color for your invitation wording and adding a liner to your inner envelope.

Groom's Boutonniere: Use

Special Touches
for the Wedding Reception

 |
At some point during the
planning stages for your wedding the subject of linens
will arise. When it does stop and think of all the
possibilities available to you before you go with
standard issue white polyester tablecloths. Remember the
tops of the tables provide you with a very large surface
area and covering them with beautiful tablecloths is
the easiest & most cost effective way to change the feel of a room.
Place a tall vase of
Dendrodium Orchids on your guest registry table and
place two smaller vases with one calla in each vase at
the base of the tall vase.
Add a tall vase with 3-5
stand callas & lily grass or Callas, Dendrodium Orchids,
and curly willow on each guest table. A bubble bowl with mini callas twisted
around inside the bowl and one stem peeking out of the
top also makes a lovely arrangement. Place the
arrangement on a mirror with votive candles around the
mirror.
Accented your cake with
Calla Lilies, Roses and ribbon and set a vase of Callas
on the table.
Attach a mini calla to the stem of each toasting glass. |
Add mood lighting to your reception tables
by placing candles (votive, tealights, pillars or tapers)
on the tables along with your floral centerpiece or just
use candles alone of different sizes. They look lovely
on a mirror. Accent your candles with ribbon in your
wedding colors.
Don't be afraid of color and texture. White on white is lovely, but
even weddings are often decorated in rich and exciting colors. Consider the romance of midnight blue, the heat of calypso colors, and the passion of vibrant red.
Delicate shades of pink, blue, green, lavender and yellow are also used, especially for garden or summer weddings.
If you prefer a traditional, understated look, by all means choose solid colors or traditional white. Add a touch of whimsy or an expression of personal style with accessories . . . elegant charger plates, intriguing napkin rings, or a single, stunning
mini calla lily tucked into a napkin or the back of a
chair cover are the kinds of dazzling details that help set your
wedding apart.
For
decorating magic and makeover miracles
use white
bridal lights, tulle, netting and gossamer
for adding an extra romantic touch to any
indoor or outdoor wedding venue. Use
these materials to drape tables,
ceilings, columns, doors and walls.
Don't forget tulle, and gossamer also make beautiful
chair bows.
Calla Lily
Favors
Ribbons & bows can turn even a
simple favor
box into something special. Use a white favor
box, add a piece of ribbon around the center of
each box and top with one large calla with a organza ribbon bow attached to the stem.
You will
find a number of items like: Napkins, Coasters, Place Cards, Matches & Favor
Notepads, Sewing Kit Favors, Favor Boxes, Cake Boxes
& etc. that can be Personalized with
your names & wedding date plus either the CAL
- Calla Lilly Bouquet or CL - Calla Lilly Design in the
Bridals
Acessories Section on our Carlson Craft
site.

Calla Lilies
Meaning:
Magnificent Beauty
Availability: Winter to late spring is the peak
season. Standard Callas are primarily
available October through early May. Mini callas are
usually available most of the year.
Standard Callas vs. Mini Callas:
Standard callas are 24 inches long with blooms 3-5 inches tall. In comparison with standard callas,
mini callas are small. Though size is variable, the average length is 10-12 inches with blooms 2-3 inches tall.
Colors: Standard
callas come in white/cream, yellow (beautiful natural yellow), green
goddess (gorgeous natural green color), and a new variety called
green princess (white with green edging). Mini Callas are
available in white/cream, yellow, peach, purple, orange
(mango), pink, purple, burgundy mauve and white crystal blush (has a
lavender/purple blush). The colors are affected
by weather conditions during the the growing phase so the colors are
variable. For example at times the white can have some pink hints or
be a very pale yellow. Mauve ranges from almost pink to just about
purple. The orange is best described as the color of a nectarine. It
can be anywhere from mango orange to just about red, usually a combo
of fall tones.
Meeting With Your Florist
When you visit
a florist for a wedding consultation you should bring
material swatches of the primary colors of the
attendants dresses or any special linens used at the
reception.
Make up a list of all the items you want for
the ceremony and the reception. I suggest buying several
bridal magazines and cutting out any pictures of flowers
that you like and may want for your wedding. A picture
is worth a thousand words. There are some excellent
wedding flower books that can be found at the local book
store or library. Your florist may also have some books
but it is best to have an idea of what you like going
into the consultation, especially if it is a "Free
Consultation". Yes, some florist charge a fee for a
consultation, in that case it is a really good idea to
know what you want to save time.
When you meet with a florist you may
want to ask for referrals or if they have had any training, this is especially important if you are
having a wedding with over 100 guests. If you are planning a small
event it is OK to hire a florist who may not have had as much
training or referrals as some of the more experienced florists. They
usually charge less and if your wedding budget is minimal you should
get more for your money. If you need reassurance this is the right
florist for your needs you can ask for a sample to be made up before
you sign any contracts or make a deposit, but be prepared to pay for
this sample. You don't expect to work for free and your florist
doesn't either.
