Invitations:

Choose invitations that let your guests know that they are an important part of this celebration.

Draw rainbows on cardstock. Write party details on the back.

Consider making an invitation using cardstock and satin ribbons to form a rainbow on the front of the card.

Invite guest to wear their favorite clothes in the colors of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

Decorations:

Greet your guests by hanging a rainbow banner from your front door or entrance, with a special message for the guest of honor.

Float helium filled rainbow colored balloons to a light post or mailbox so there will be no mistaking where the fun will be that day, or set on either side of the doorway.

Tie huge rainbow colored bows across the top of each chair back. The bows can be cut to any length, and even look great with tails trailing on the floor. Make bows to hang anywhere and everywhere…chairs, doorways, tree trunks, stair rails, deck posts, gift packages, or table-ends.

Make clouds out of poster board with a bit of pillow stuffing glued on and hang from the back of each chair so it looks as though each child gets to sit on a cloud at the rainbow table.

Table Decorations:

Setting a table with the party ware, including the tablecloth, cups, plates, napkins, and cutlery is the fastest way to create a focal point in a room.

Use table covers in rainbow colors (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet), use a different color on each table.
Bring a rainbow of color to the table via napkins. Give each person two napkins slipped into one napkin ring. Use two different colors. A colorful setting can be achieved with little effort this way.
Create a rainbow balloon bouquets and attach to gold balloon weights for centerpieces.
Make rainbow parfait candles in wine glasses by laying the wax colors or make votive candles.
Bright colored table cloth sprinkled with gold glitter or colored confetti.
Sky blue table cloth with rainbow colored streamers running down the length of the table.
A rainbow colored balloon attached to the back of each chair or even three on each chair!
Sprinkle the table with Skittles for the children to eat.
Create a centerpiece using a bunch of helium filled balloons tied with curling ribbon. Attach them to a Balloon Weights.

Napkins can be laid out on a buffet table in a rainbow pattern. Place napkins in the center of each place setting at an angle, or unfold them and place them in glasses for a tall dramatic look. The napkins can also be tied (and bundled with plastic cutlery) with a multitude of rainbow items to match your theme. Try curling ribbon, satin ribbon, rainbow beads, rainbow bracelets or rainbow coil springs.

Decorating with Balloons:

Balloons can economically transform any room, backyard or park into a festive rainbow space in a matter of minutes by using some of the following ideas:

Place an arch of rainbow balloons over the entryway.

Use a Helium Tank to fill balloons. Tie Curling Ribbon to balloons, and group them together. (Odd numbers look best: 3, 5, or 7) Place groupings of balloons around the party room.
Tie a bunch of helium filled balloons to the birthday child’s chair, or tie one to the back of each chair.
If you choose not to use helium, tie balloons to varying lengths of curling ribbon, and hang balloons from the ceiling, or from a light fixture over the party table.
Balloon arches are ideal for photo backdrops, entryways, and to hi-light different areas around your party room and are easy to make.
A column of balloons will work much the same way that arches do, and can be used for entryways, photo backdrop, or for a terrific splash of color when placed at intervals around a party room.
Balloon swags make the perfect accessory. They can be hung across the ceiling of a tent, or a room with a high ceiling like banquet halls or a gymnasium.

Piñatas are always fun, I've never seen a child turn down a chance to take a swing for a sweet treat.

Party Food & Cake Ideas:

As the excitement is so high at children’s birthday parties, most children under the age of 10 will eat very little, and the waste can be disheartening. If you are entertaining a younger crowd, schedule your party during a time when parents will not expect that their children will eat a meal…and serve only cake, ice cream, and a few other munchies such as popcorn, cheese balls, or grapes.

If you decide to serve a light meal, serve food that you would typically find at a mall food court -- pizza by the slice, nachos, burgers and fries, or soft pretzels.

Serve easy to prepare food.
Name all the food and beverages to match your theme.
Display a Cake in the center of the food table. The children will love the close up view!
Serve Sandwiches cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
