Planning A Hawaiian Luau?
The key to pulling off a coordinated
event: Evoke your theme throughout the affair. Whether that
theme is as general as a season or a feeling, or as specific as
a special flower, it should be the subtle thread that ties
everything together. Your location, invitations, flowers, menu,
cake, and favors should all cleverly reflect one common concept.
Then, get as creative as you can!
Location: Beach,
Backyard Pool,
Botanical Garden, Cruise ship, Reception Hall, or Ballroom.
Setting the Mood:
Transform
your location into a tropical paradise with tropical
foliage like: tropical palms, plants, & exotic flowers
(Orchids, Hibiscus, Heliconia, Bird of Paradise, Asiatic
Lilies).
Float floral arrangements in the pool.
Luau Table Decor
Remember the tops of the
tables provide you with a very large surface area and
covering them with a
themed table cover or tropical
print linen tablecloth is the easiest way
to change the look & feel of a room.
Raffia Table Skirts
will add a festive look to any table.
Trim with real flower leis or
silk flower leis for an
elegant look.
Set the table with
Luau Tableware or Plastic Shell Plates .
Usage of small trees, such as
the 5ft. Banana Tree or a 3ft. plant Heliconia or Bird of
Paradise have been very popular as centerpieces for a
buffet table or salad bar.
Use colorful Flower Bracelets
for a beautiful napkin ring or
place a single exotic bloom on top of a solid colored cloth
napkin. For a beach bash, tuck a napkin inside of a pair of
Sunglasses.
Tropical Centerpiece Ideas:
Centerpieces utilizing real
fruits are very popular. A pineapple placed in the center of
a real flower lei or
silk flower leis with
Cocktail Umbrellas
stuck into the pineapple is a simple
arrangement. Add a coconut next to the pineapple for an
additional accent.
Make a
3ft balloon
tabletop palm
tree to set on a buffet table.
 |
Decorate your serving tables by
making a
Palm Tress Centerpiece from cucumbers, green peppers,
pineapple, citrus fruit wedges, Boston fern & assorted flowers.
A lovely addition to any table. |
Candles are also popular
centerpiece options: Try
Bamboo Torch Candles
Place three or four 2" or 3"
high square glass bowls filled with water tinted blue down the length of a banquet table.
Place floating candles in the bowls,
scatter
seashells ,
sea glass, and sand around the bowls.
For upscale parties,
lighted centerpieces
are very popular. Try adding
LED lights
to glass vases and create
fabulous light up centerpieces.
Some other ideas might
include: a tall glass vase lighted
from below with an LED light base. Fill vases with
Orchids or lemons & limes floating in water.
Try a tall lighted vase with
limes & a tropical floral arrangement or place lighted
acrylic boxes on the table and add limes or
oranges on top. Submerge Orchids in cylinder vases or tall lighted vase.

Light up your Drinks!
Add to
the party decor by serving your favorite drinks in
LED Palm Tree Margarita Glasses ,
or
Light Up Mugs .
These glasses are also a fun way to
light up your desserts. Use for fruit cups, shrimp
cocktail or an ice cream sundae.
Colorful
Neon Hurricane Glasses ,
Neon Coconut Cups or
Neon Margarita Cups will add a festive flair to your
poolside drinks.
Accent your tropical drink
with
Tropical Flower Straws ,
Umbrella Straws or
Cocktail Umbrellas They are
also great accent for food platters too.
Tropical Lighting:
Lighting is one of the important elements of any design. For
pool parties or informal events tiki torches can be used to
line walkways and party areas. Accent other party areas with
luau party lights. Party
lights also make great accents for tables.
Gobos can be used to project
photo-realistic images (pictures, line drawings, logos) of
just about anything (palm trees, parrots) onto walls, ceilings or a stage areas.
Imagine parrots in flight illuminating the sky of your event
room. Used alone, or in combination with other gobos,
stunning results can be achieved. Contact your local
lighting company for ideas.
Scene Setters:
Scene Setters
Decorations
& Luau Props are used to fill in gaps and
round out areas.
They are the perfect way to
convert your party room into a Luau scene. Mix
and Match decorations to create a unique party
atmosphere.
Wall Murals:
If your budget is low, but
your dreams are grand, consider the depth of a giant
photo mural. They fill an entire wall, and better
yet, they provide guests with the most realistic setting
imaginable. When else will your guests have the opportunity
to relax beneath a tropical sunset, or soak in the beauty of
a island beach in the company of friends. They also make an
excellent photo background too.
Affordable
Ambiance! Make your luau theme decorations even more
spectacular with easy-to-use and affordable gossamer.
Create festive tropical backdrops or fabulous swags— the
options are limitless! Deck out your hall in a forest of
tropical green with this
green palm leaf gossamer.
Bring Vitality To Your
Theme Concept
While decor still reigns supreme when invoking theme, an
interactive element brings vitality to your theme concept.
Besides the tropical flowers, native plants and tiki torches
to evoke your theme — bring in traditional native dancers to
perform at your Hawaiian Event, combine with a hilarious
audience participation segment where guests can interact and
be part of the event, rather than just spectators.
When you choose to go with a
themed event, it should be a complete commitment. Even your
catering should reflect the theme. That might mean supplying
action stations that combine food flavor, presentation and
decor for a total guest experience. If you're going to do a
themed event, it needs to be done legitimately and to
completion. It can't be a partial attempt.
Tropical Drinks:
Pina Colada:
1
1/4 oz Rum add a splash of Cream of Coconut & Pineapple
Juice. Blend with Ice Cream, Sherbet or Yogurt for a frozen
delight. Serve in
Tropical Cups. Garnish with a cherry or pineapple wedge
for a refreshing drink.
Use colorful party tubs
filled with ice for keeping drinks cold.
