Table Decorations

For your centerpieces, purchase a round clear glass cylinder vase ( 8", 10", or 12" height). Make sure opening at the top of the vase is about 3 1/2 inches. Place St. Patrick's Day Stickers on the outside of the glass cylinder, then take a piece of white paper and line the inside of each cylinder. Add an oasis cage (same width as top of vase) to the top of the vase. Purchase several dozen white carnations from your local floral outlet. You can add green color to white carnations by making a simple dye solution. To make your dye solution, dissolve one ounce of food coloring in one pint of warm water. Then add one teaspoon of sugar. Place the dye solution in a clear glass vase. Cut end of stem under water & then immerse the fresh cut flower stems in about three inches of dye solution. Remove the flowers from the dye solution when the desired color is achieved. This could take anywhere from one to 24 hours. When the carnations are ready, wash the stem ends under running water and cut the stems again as you place them into the oasis cage to make the arrangement. Cut your stems so that they are only about 2 inches long, then push them into the oasis cage. Continue adding flowers until the entire cage is covered. For a whimsical touch tie some green or white feather together with floral wire and stick them down into the top of the flowers.
