After selecting this theme
for your party, choose a slogan to use in your invitations, and to use in
tying in decorations and personalized favors to your super sports theme.
Try one of the following, or brainstorm with the birthday boy or girl to
come up with the perfect slogan for your party
- ”Heads up for a Kickin’ Good
Time!”
- “World Cup Party”
- “Partying with Chase is our GOAL!”

Invitations:
Choose a
SOCCER INVITATIONS that will
let your guests know what a kickin’ time they will
have at the party.
Be sure that the invitation notes that
kids should come dressed to participate in sporting activities,
including the right kind of footwear. Shin guards and soccer
socks are optional!

Party Decorations
You won’t have to wait for the World Cup
to experience the thrill this soccer party is sure create! We’ve
gathered everything you’ll need to decorate and celebrate breakaway
style, and to guarantee all-star action for everyone!
Line a walkway with
Die-Cut Shimmer Stars, writing each guest’s name on a star.
Tape the stars with masking or duct tape to the sidewalk, walkway or
exterior walls leading to the site of the party.
Attach a bouquet of helium filled
Balloons to a light post or mailbox so there will be no
mistaking where the fun will be that day!
Table
Decorations:
Generally, decorating for
this party can be fairly simple, because typically this party will be held
at a specialized soccer facility, gym, park, or backyard and the focus will
be on playing the game. However, there are times when you might
want to use this theme for a more upscale event, or even a wedding
reception. Regardless of what type of event you are planning, try to greet guests with a festive welcome,
and create over-the-top tables for eating, and for food and gift display!
At some point during the planning stages of
your event the subject of linens will arise. When it does stop and think
of all the possibilities available to you. Current trends are moving
away from all-white {linen}. Our clients tell us they are looking for
ways to make a statement, set a theme, & create a mood.
Remember the tops of the tables provide you
with a very large surface area and covering them with a specialty soccer
print themed tablecloth is the easiest way to change the feel of a room,
and it will make a statement that no white cloth alone can make. It is
also the most cost effective way to decorate. If your planning a more
casual event you could use a
GRASS TABLE COVER.
One of
the hottest trends is the runner, which can quickly transform a bare table
— or even a tablecloth. Our solution: "Wheat Grass"
(available in health food stores), just pin wide ribbon around the base of several sheets of
wheat grass and use as a runner down the center of your table. Place a
soccer ball in the center of the runner. If you want to dress the table up
a bit, tuck flowers (daisy, sunflowers) inside water tubes, stick water tubes down into the wheatgrass to create a
elegant tabletop.
Try one of the following ideas to liven up your table:
Napkins can serve several purposes…great
decorating in disguise and a
treasured memento for scrapbooks. Order Napkins
in your team colors and
have them imprinted with your party slogan, name(s) and the design of
your choice. The napkins can be laid out on a serving table, or can be
displayed at each place setting at an angle.
Bring color to the table via cloth napkins. Give each person two napkins slipped into one napkin ring. Use two different colors, two coordinating patterns or one patterned and one solid-colored napkin. A colorful setting can be achieved with little effort this way.
Unfold the napkins, pinch each in the
center of the napkin and place the center point in the bottom of each
cup or wine glass, this adds
a festive touch while the glassware is still empty.
Tie napkins with
SOCCER BEADS and
place in the center of each plate at an angle. The cutlery can also be added before the napkin is
tied.
Centerpiece Ideas:
For elegant centerpieces
for guest tables or buffet tables use an ice sculpture of a soccer ball.
Create your own centerpiece. Use a 10" or
12" foam base. Cover the side of the base with a ribbon. Cover the top
with foil poufs in team colors (make poufs by cutting 5" squares from
foil paper, pinch the center of the foil square and attach to wood or
metal floral picks, push picks down into foam base), set an
INFLATABLE SOCCER BALL
in the center of the base, on top of the poufs. Accent
with sprays of Onion Grass & 2" glitter stars (available at craft & hobby stores).
Other items that could be used for accents include:
Add one or a few of the following
touches to accent your tables:
Cover the gift or food table with grass green floral sheeting vinyl
to create a clever surface that
resembles a soccer field. Use white athletic tape to create the
touchlines, goal lines, halfway mark, center mark, penalty area, and
corner arc.
Place a 12X12” piece of the “turf”
(same material as the table cover grass) under each plate as a
placemat on the table where the kids will eat.
Set a
Cheer Phone at
each place setting as a place card.
Hang a Pennant
down the back of each chair around the table.
Cheer on your
favorite team with
PLASTIC MEGAPHONES!
Add some
pom
poms in team colors, to add a real splash of color to your
party site.
Pay tribute to your child's soccer
heroes or favorite team by adding logoed pennants, jerseys, caps,
autographed balls, or well-worn shin guards...anything you have around
the house.
PLASTIC MEGAPHONES (sport cones) are great for running drills, and they will also add a
great splash of color to any party location!
Soccer
Party Cake & Food When you are “trapping”
the soccer players to stop for a moment, for a little nourishment,
they’ll be delighted when you serve soccer ball cake and ice cream!
- To make the cake a real standout, cover
the food table with
grass green floral sheeting vinyl creating a clever surface that resembles
the playing surface of a soccer game. Place the baked and cooled
cake in the center. Decorate the cake, and then use white
athletic tape or white piped frosting to create touchlines, a halfway
mark, goal lines, a center mark, penalty area, and a corner arc.
The other food can then be placed on the table around the cake.
- If you are serving more people than can
be accommodated by one boxed mix, which is what this pan calls for, we
recommend that you simply bake extra cupcakes, or an extra rectangular
cake. All can be frosted in matching frosting, and cut and
served behind the scenes.
Food:
- As the excitement is so high at
children’s birthday parties, most children under the age of 10 will
eat very little, and the waste can be disheartening. If you are
entertaining a younger crowd, schedule your party during a time when
parents will not expect that their children will eat a meal…and
serve only cake, ice cream, and a few other munchies such as popcorn,
cheese balls, grapes or M&Mstm.
- If you are serving a meal, serve typical
"sports spectator" concession stand food – hot dogs,
nachos, soft pretzels, pizza, chips, popcorn, and snow cones.
Use
Die-Cut Shimmer Stars to label each dish with a
creative name. Dribble Dogs (hot dogs), Heading Burgers
(hamburgers), Noggin’ Nachos, Striker Snow Cones, Passing Pizza, and
Corner Kicks (corn chips) would all be fun to serve and eat! The
leftover shimmer stars can be used to create place cards for each
all-star at the party!
Soccer
Party Activities
You’ll meet your GOAL of throwing
the best party ever for your child with these sure to please
activities!
-
Purchase an inexpensive t-shirt
for each guest from a discount store (Wal-Mart carries them
for approximately $2.00-3.00/top). On the back of each
jersey write the guest's last name and add large numbers
using fabric paint. You could also purchase two
different colors of shirt, and divide the kids into teams at
the outset of the party. If you choose this route,
make sure that the teams are evenly matched from a skill
standpoint. Let the kids suit up, and then take lots
of pictures of your child's "team"…the kids will
love it!
-
Balls, balls and more balls are
the most critical element for a soccer party! If the
party is being held in a backyard or open field, add some
chalk lines to create an authentic field. Plan
time for the kids to play as they choose.
They will enjoy this as much as anything you might organize.
-
Using a metal whistle
and cheer Phone
(sport cones), run
some organized soccer drills or create a few fun
“Skill-Seeking” games. Include drills for passing,
shooting, trapping, dribbling and heading. For the
heading drills, use a
PLUSH SOCCER BALL
unless the guests are advanced soccer players.
Recruit
a couple of star soccer players from a local team or high school team to work with the kids. Younger
children look upon these athletes with awe, and the athletes
will be flattered by the attention of their young charges!
-
Give each guest an
inflated
WHITE BALLOONS
,
or
BLACK BALLOONS to play “Noggin’ or Nothin’”.
The object of this game is for players to hit the balloon up
into the air, and keep it afloat for the longest period of
time using only their heads! If a player’s balloon
hits the floor they are given a red card, and ejected from
the game.
- Divide the party guests into two
equal groups. About 25 yards away, place mounds of
inflated white and black balloons by two
MEGAPHONES. These balloons should be over-inflated to
make popping easier. At the sound of a whistle the first two
relay contestants, one from each team, run to the cones and
remove one balloon. Each must sit on a balloon until it
pops. Once the balloon pops, the players run back to the
starting line, and tag the next player in line. The first team
to complete the course wins. Not a quiet game…but a
guaranteed favorite!
-
-
Set the stage for the “Birthday
Cup” complete with dazzling player
introductions, pumped up music, and play-by-play commentary.
Soccer Moms and Dads can be invited back to the party early
to witness this spectacle. You’ll definitely want
the video camera running!
-
All the finest sporting venues
have a gimmick for introducing the starting lineup!
Start with our budget priced Solid Color Flat Paper,
which comes in 4’ X 50’ rolls. Prior to the party,
cut the paper into 6’ sections. Using poster paint,
write each child’s name, nickname and number in large
print on the paper. Have an adult helper hold each end
of the paper at the start of the game, and let each player
crash through the paper as his/her name is announced.
If the children are younger, you may want to perforate the
center of the paper with a pin or small nail before the
party to make the big entry easier.
-
A Karaoke Machine is the perfect
tool for a sports commentator to call the play-by-play!
Recruit dad or another sports nut for the job. Give
the announcer the kid’s names and numbers, and some
pre-scripted notes with a personal bio of each child.
Involve each child’s parents prior to the party. Ask
for a few fun facts, and weave those into the commentary.
“When Chase was only 6 years old, he single handedly
scored 12 goals in one game…and he only played the first
half of the game!” “Jennifer used to be so
involved in her T-ball games that she’d be turning
cartwheels in the outfield. That’s why she plays
soccer now!” Give each child equal airtime, despite
the fact that some may be gifted athletes, while others will
have had little or no experience with the game.
-
Ya’ll ready for this?
Pump up the jam with some great sports arena music and sound
effects. The ESPN Jock Jams and Jock Rock series of
CDs are great. The background sound will relax the
kids who might be a little intimidated, and fire up the
whole team! Let the “G” rated trash talk begin!
-
When the game ends, pass out
favors to each
child bestowing them with a special soccer nickname. “Hands Free Freddy”, “Hi-Kick Hank”, “Gorilla
Goalie Griffin”, “Noggin’ Poundin’ Nick”, “Super
Striker Sam”, “Midfield Max”.
We offer a wonderful
Soccer Ball Pinata and we’ve yet to find a child who
doesn’t want to take a swing at one at a party.
