Parties are still Teens' Favorite Way to Connect
In an age when teens are
texting instead of talking and know IM before knowing "who I
am," it's good to know that girls still place a high
priority on face-to-face fun with friends. According to a
survey, the slumber party, long the gold-standard of
teen girl gatherings, still tops the list of teens' favorite
activities. A majority (54 percent) of teen girls have been
at a slumber party at least once in the last month, with
more than one-in-four (29 percent) attending a slumber party
in the last week.
High-Touch Experiences Needed in Teens' High-Tech World
"It's important for teens to reconnect face-to-face because
today's high-tech world can make relationships impersonal
and stressful," according to Jill Zimmerman Rutledge, LCSW,
a psychotherapist specializing in teen girls and author of
Dealing with the Stuff That Makes Life Tough: The Ten Things
That Stress Girls Out and How To Cope with Them. "High-touch
experiences, like slumber parties, can help girls tune into
the moment, reconnect on a personal level, and have
un-interrupted fun."
