Every child has dreamed of visiting
Barney's imaginary world of fun. After selecting this theme for
your party, choose a slogan for your party by trying one of the
following, or by thinking of one that suits your precious child.
"Join us for a Super Dee Dooper party for Michael!"
"I love you, you love me...won't you come to my party?!”
"ABC & 123...Come have birthday fun with me!"
Toddler Birthday Tips:
When planning your toddler's birthday, remember that he/she
has absolutely no expectations when it comes to this
celebration. In reality, this party is for your family and
friends, who are coming primarily to ooh and aah over your
precious child. The day is sure to be wonderful and
memorable if you keep a few things in mind.
Plan a fairly short party (no more than 1 to 1½ hours), and
plan around your child’s naptime. The sight of a few
balloons tied to his/her high chair, birthday cake with lots
of frosting, and plenty of affection will be the highlights
of the day for the baby! Too many activities will only
result in an unhappy and cranky child. If possible, hold the
party in your own home or in an environment the birthday
child is familiar and comfortable with.
Take lots of pictures, including one of each guest with the
birthday boy or girl. Also, take the time to put yourself in
some of the pictures. Many busy parents find that they are
"missing" from family albums because they were the ones
behind the camera all day! A photo favor will be so
meaningful to the people who are a big part of your child’s
life. This can actually be a planned activity for your
party.
Invitations:
Barney™ Invitation and Thank You Cards are delightful for
this theme!
Decorating Ideas:
Never underestimate the power of music to set the tone for
your party. Play Barney party music in the background.
Color Scheme:
When using a color scheme use one or two main colors and
build around these. If you choose to use only one color for
your decorating, try to add little touches of another color
or a lighter or darker shade of the same color to create a
more pleasing effect. Adding little splashes of white,
black, gold or silver will not detract from your main color
choice, and the effect will be considerably more dramatic!
Attach a bouquet of helium filled
Barney 12" Balloons to a light post
or mailbox so there will be no mistaking where the fun will
be that day!
As an alternative to
displaying a bunch of Barney Balloons, line the pathway
leading to your home with single helium-filled
Purple Balloons attached
to Foil Balloon Weights.
Cut out large
"dinosaur" footprints out of purple construction paper and
place them on the walkway leading to your front door.
Greet your guests by hanging a
Personalized Birthday Banner from your front door or entrance. A fabulous way to add spunk right from the get-go!
Setting a table with the
Barney party ware, including the
tablecloth, cups, plates, napkins, and cutlery is the
fastest way to create a focal point in a room. Setting the
table with all the tableware creates a much grander effect.
Add a few of the following touches to personalize your
table, and even
Barney Balloons and Pinata!
Create a centerpiece using a bunch of helium filled
Barney Balloons or Purple,
Green and Yellow balloons tied with
Purple,
Green and Yellow curling ribbon. Attach them to a
Balloon Weights.
Napkins can be laid out on a buffet table, or can be
displayed at each place setting. Place napkins in the center
of each place setting at an angle, or unfold them and place
them in glasses for a tall dramatic look. The napkins can
also be tied (and bundled with plastic cutlery) with a
multitude of items to match your theme. Try Curling Ribbon,
Gossamer Streamers, ric-rac or ribbon.
Bring color to the table via napkins. Give each person two
napkins slipped into one napkin ring. Use two different
colors (purple & green) (green & yellow), or two coordinating patterns or one patterned and one
solid-colored napkin. A colorful setting can be achieved
with little effort this way.
Add some
Balloon Flowers
and a Happy Birthday Rainbow, and you’ll have created a
Super-Dee-Dooper setting.
Display your birthday cake in the center of the table…the
kids will love the close up view!
When using a "theme", choose basic colors, then add
some fun props. Place any Barney toys your child may have
around the party area or spread them out on the floor.
Hang a
Personalized Birthday Banner to create a spectacular party
setting!
Bows
Add lots of blue sky by tying bows across the top of each
chair back. The bows can be cut to any length and look great
with tails trailing on the floor. Make bows to hang anywhere
and everywhere...chairs, doorways, tree trunks, stair rails,
deck posts, gift packages or table-ends.
Balloons
Balloons can economically transform any room, backyard or
park into a festive space in a matter of minutes. When using
balloons for toddler party read these
Balloon Safety Tips.
Hang
Balloons (Purple,
Green and Yellow) and Purple,
Green and Yellow Crepe Streamer all around the area.
Here are some ideas for
decorating with balloons:
Use a
Helium Tank to fill balloons. Tie
Purple,
Green and Yellow Curling Ribbon to balloons, and group them together. (Odd numbers look best:
3, 5, or 7) Place groupings of balloons around the party
room.
Tie a bunch of helium filled
Balloons to the birthday
child’s chair, or tie one to the back of each chair.
If you choose not to use helium, tie balloons to varying
lengths of curling ribbon, and hang balloons from the
ceiling, or from a light fixture over the party table.
Balloon arches are
ideal for photo backdrops, entryways, and to hi-light
different areas around your party room and are easy to make.
If you don't want to do a Balloon Arch,
a column of balloons
will work much the same way that arches do, and can be used
for entryways, photo backdrop, or for a terrific splash of
color when placed at intervals around a party room. You make
columns in the same way as arches but they stand straight-up
and can be built to any height you wish.
Balloon swags
make the perfect accessory. They can be hung
across the ceiling of a tent, or a room with a high ceiling.
Make
Balloon Clouds
and hang from the ceiling & place bunches of
Balloon Flowers
everywhere.
Streamers
Purple,
Green and Yellow Streamers offer an economical way to splash lots of color
around the site of the party. Create a fun and colorful
effect by draping streamers from the center of the ceiling
to the walls on each side of the room, or between trees if
the party is being held outdoors. The streamers can be
twisted after they are anchored to a ceiling wall or table
for a more dimensional look. Two different colored streamers
can be placed back to back and twisted for a unique look.
They also look terrific hanging from doorframes or cascading
vertically down walls.
Party Favors
Send the kids home with Barney party favors:
- Barney
Toys
-
Barney Loot Bags
-
Barney Stickers
-
Bubbles
-
Dinosaur favors
- Fun cookie cutters
- and so on.
Party Activities
A Barney™ party just wouldn’t
be complete without games, learning activities, and some
happily-ever-after memory making!
Games and Activities:
Start with Bubbles. Baby Bop & BJ love bubbles and
pint-sized guests will too!
A
Barney Pinata.
Face painting is an age appropriate activity for a
toddler party. A simple balloon, a flower, a rainbow, or a
heart would all be easy to create and fun!
Print out some Barney
coloring pages, before the party. Give each child a coloring
page and crayons and let color while they're waiting for
other guests to arrive.
Give each child a
helium-filled
Barney Balloon and have a Barney & Friends Parade,
complete with marching music! Dress the children up in fun
hats and accessories, and the the birthday boy or girl lead
the parade! Add Foam Noses, Cowboy Hats, Bandannas or
Rainbow Wigs to all the children and make sure your video
camera is ready to capture some priceless footage!
Play "Simon Says" game, but
replace "Simon Says" with "Barney Says".
Barney Shuffle! or Freeze
Dancing– Put on Barney party music.
Have the kids dance (hopping, jumping, rolling, twirling,
etc.) as they follow the leader to the beat.
Play a variation of the
Hot Potato game. Have players sit in a circle and pass a
stuffed Barney until the music stops. The player left
holding Barney when the music stops is out, and gets
tickled. Keep passing Barney until only one player is left.
Have mom, dad or a family
friend create balloon animals for all the pint-sized party
guests.
Party Food & Cake Ideas
As the excitement is so high at children’s birthday parties,
most children under the age of 10 will eat very little, and
the waste can be disheartening. If you are entertaining a
younger crowd, schedule your party during a time when
parents will not expect that their children will eat a
meal…and serve only cake, ice cream, and a few other
munchies such as mini chocolate chip cookies, pretzels, popcorn, cheese balls,
and grapes (cut in half for toddlers).
If you decide to serve a light meal, serve food that you
would typically find at a mall food court -- pizza by the
slice, nachos, burgers and fries, or soft pretzels.
- Serve easy to prepare
food.
- Name all the food and
beverages to match your theme.
- Display a Cake in the
center of the food table. The children will love the
close up view!
- Serve sandwiches cut
into letter and number shapes with cookie cutters, or
cut sandwiches into the four basic shapes; circle,
square, triangle, and rectangle.
- Ritz® Dinosaur Crackers
- Dino Burgers
- Bake square-shaped sugar
cookies and frost them as ABC blocks.
- J-ello™ Jigglers are
also a perennial party favorite with young children.
- Create a colorful
rainbow parfait for each guest. This treat will bring
lots of sunny smiles. Layer scoops of softened green,
yellow, orange, and pink sherbet into glasses. Smooth
out each layer before adding the next layer. Freeze
until solid. Before serving, add a fluffy "cloud" to the
top (spoonful of Cool Whip™).
- Serve ice cream in
assorted pastel colored plastic
Ice Cream Dishes w/spoons.
Barney Cake
The happiest monster in the
entire world will be all smiles at your party! Make a purple
dinosaur cake, and you’ll hear giggles of delight. Place the
baked cake on a Giant Star. Frost the cake in "Barney"
purple and green, give him a friendly smiling face, and
scatter a few ABC blocks or some Curling Ribbon curls around
the star to create a marvelous focal point for the food
table.

If you are serving more people than can be accommodated by
one boxed mix, which is what this pan calls for, we
recommend that you simply bake extra cupcakes or an extra
rectangular cake. All can be frosted in matching frosting
and cut and served behind the scenes.
Alternative cake idea:
Bake a round or sheet cake. Use the directions on our

Cakes.
