Balloon Flowers How
to make Balloon Flowers
Balloon Flowers are easy to make and can be
air filled and attached to a stairway or hung down from the ceiling with
fishing line.
You can also fill them with helium and
attach to fishing line to form an arch. This is usually done by making a
small column of balloons on each side and floating the arch
overhead.
It is important that all
the balloons are blown up to the same size. An easy way to size
the balloons is to make a template. Cut a round hole in a piece of
poster foam board or a box the size you want the balloons to be,
and when inflating pass the balloon through the hole. Fig.1

Step 1. Tie a
clear monofilament line (fishing line) (10-15 lb.) to a knotted
11" balloon. Allow a two foot tail. You will use this line
to attach balloon to the center of the cluster. I used 11"
balloons to make the flowers shown in the photo to the left. For
smaller balloon flowers use 5" balloons.

Step 2. Tie two 11"
balloons together at necks with one knot (all balloons should be
inflated to same size for balance). Repeat this step to make three
pairs.

Step 3. Twist
the balloon pairs together at the necks to create a cluster of
four balloons. Then repeat to form a cluster of six.

Step 4: Pull the
single balloon with the fishing line attached through the center
of the cluster and secure by wrapping the fishing line around a
couple of the balloons in the cluster.
Optional: You can also blow
up a couple of twist balloons with a hand pump about 3/4 full and
then tie each balloon into a circle. Then tuck a twist balloon
under the center balloon of the flower on each side.
