Cleaning tips for game-day parties
(ARA) - Somewhere beyond the frenzy of football stadiums housing cheese-heads, seas of red, Touchdown Jesus', and playing fields a "mile high," there is another mass of devoted fans munching on buffalo wings and bringing the game-day hysteria of potato-chip crumbs and catsup stains from the stadium to the house.
According to the Gallup Poll, more than half of Americans (54 percent) consider themselves professional football fans, and that means a majority of Americans are doing some kind of
game-day
partying. With so many people celebrating, things are bound to get messy.
"Football is a messy sport," says Kim Wilson, spokesperson for THE MAIDS International, a professional maid service, "The players are rowdy, and the fans are rowdy. Put those together with some snacks and drinks, and you could have a disaster on your hands."
THE MAIDS Home Services provides the following cleaning tips to help game-day party hosts and hostesses keep their homes in working order before and after a game-day party:
* Use
paper products for easier clean-up. Place several garbage cans throughout the house for disposal.
* Keep a recycling bin within guests' reach for bottles and cans.
* Messy fingers have a tendency to roam at will: Place moist towelettes near finger-foods.
* Large crowds and flames do not mix. Put away all candles. Leave a bowl of potpourri or a scented jelly jar out to refresh the air -- especially in the bathroom.
* Invest in machine-washable slipcovers for your sofas and chairs. They make cleaning easier, and the slipcover is easier and less expensive to replace than your upholstery.
* To remove unwelcome odors, such as beer, from washable items like tablecloths and slipcovers, rinse items with one cup of vinegar in the washing machine and launder as usual.
THE MAIDS, one of the largest and oldest maid service franchisors in the nation, serves nearly 500 markets in the United States and Canada. For more information on THE MAIDS, visit their Web site at
